The event took place on Friday 22nd October 2021 for Greek-speaking UNESCO-ASPnet teachers from Greece and Cyprus. It was organized and hosted by the Directorate for European and International Affairs of the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs in cooperation with Cyprus UNESCO-ASPnet.
The online event started with greetings extended by representatives of UNESCO, the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, the Greek National Commission for UNESCO and Cyprus UNESCO-ASPnet. In particular, on behalf of UNESCO, Ms Stefania Giannini, Assistant Director-General for Education and Mr Ernesto Ottone Ramírez, Assistant Director-General for Culture, talked about the strong connections between education and living heritage during the opening address. Greetings were also extended by Ms Zetta Makri, Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, by Ms Aikaterini Tzitzikosta, Chairperson of the Greek National Commission for UNESCO and by Mr Pavlos Dapolas, National Coordinator of Cyprus UNESCO-ASPnet.
The event continued with speeches and presentations. On behalf of the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Mr P. Passas, Supervisor of the Directorate-General for European and International Affairs and Intercultural Education referred to the empowerment of the links between living heritage and education and Ms V. Makri, Supervisor of the Directorate for European and International Affairs focused on the joint UNESCO-EU project “Integrating Intangible Cultural Heritage in school-based education” and its implementation. Ms Vera Dilari, National UNESCO-ASPnet Coordinator, provided a detailed presentation of the Toolkit for Teachers, published globally by UNESCO, which was based on the educational scenarios created by the ten European teachers who were selected to participate in the pilot workshops of the joint project in Vienna (October 2019) and Rotterdam (February 2020).
Finally, the representing teachers of Greece and Cyprus, Ms Aikaterini Christodoulou (English) and Ms Olympia Orphanidou (Mathematics), presented the educational scenarios that they designed and implemented in the framework of the pilot workshops. The presentation by Ms Orphanidou focused on the links between Mathematics and Living Heritage while Ms Christodoulou presented the project “Rebetiko: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Integrating Intangible Cultural Heritage in the daily Teaching Practice” as it was implemented at Ralleio GEL Thileon Peiraia with the cooperation of Mr D. Aggelidakis (ICT), Ms E. Kakogianni (Physical Education) and Mr D. Christopoulos (Greek Language and Literature).
