“New Steps on an Old Path: Multidisciplinary curricular project to integrate Intangible Cultural Heritage element Rebetiko in the daily teaching practice” was presented at the online conference “Citizenship Education in the Modern World”, organized by the European Wegerland Centre on 9/3/2021, for about 40 participants from Russian Federation and other countries the EWC has projects in. Participants represented different institutions of formal and non-formal education.
Ralleio presentation was entitled “Through cultural heritage to modern citizenship competences” and focused on presenting the school and its European and international activity as well as the project “New Steps on an Old Path” as best practice in citizenship and human rights education, representing school-based education. In her 15-minute presentation, K. Christodoulou (English Teacher and Project Coordinator at Ralleio) gave a detailed description of the theoretical background of the project and of its impact on learners, cooperating teachers and the school climate. The main focus of the presentation lay on the project teaching and learning activities that were implemented within the framework of Education for Democratic Citizenship (EDC), Human Rights Education (HRE) and Education for Global Citizenship (GCED).
“New Steps on an Old Path: Multidisciplinary curricular project to integrate Intangible Cultural Heritage element Rebetiko in the daily teaching practice” was designed and implemented in the framework of UNESCO-EU Joint Pilot Project “Integrating Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in School-based Education” in school year 2019-2020.
