This program is the second part of last year?s environmental program ?Sustainable School?. The aims of the program were:

for the participating students to adopt the principles and values of sustainability in their every day school life, to develop attitudes and behavior based on the sustainability principles and values,

and for the school to function within the framework of Sustainable School Indicators and to reduce its ecological footprint as well as the footprint of the school community.

In the beginning there were more than 50 members in the umbrella group, 35 of whom chose to participate in all the other groups of the sustainable school. In this particular project, there were 15 regular participants. The activities they coordinated and put in action were the following: they monitored the consumption of electricity, water, heating oil and photocopier paper, they collected out-of-order electric and electronic devices and batteries for recycling purposes, they carried out research on the students? dietary habits, they introduced ?Fruit Monday?, and, finally, they coordinated the collection of used frying oil for the production of biodiesel.

Despite the hectic and terribly busy schedule of lyceum students, the group made successful efforts to deliver the promised results. They collected a large number of electric and electronic devices and batteries, they introduced ?Fruit Monday?, they carried out research on the students? dietary habits and proposed the introduction of organic products in the school canteen, they recorded the consumption of resources at the school for three months and made efforts to reduce the consumption of photocopier paper and heating oil. Additionally, the students realized the concept of sustainability and the ways it can be implemented in daily life at school and at home. Finally, 55 liters of used frying oil were collected which will be turned into biodiesel to be used for heating purposes at the school.
