Ms Margarita- Rafaella Fytrou, student of B class, was awarded the first prize in the 8th Annual European Student Competition in Ancient Greek Language and Culture which is organised every year by the Greek Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic.
The award ceremony took place in the Greek Ministry at the ?jaqueline de Romilly? Hall on 2 September 2009. The Minister of National Education and Religious Affairs Mr Aris Spiliotopoulos presented the Greek and European students and teachers with their awards. Mr Georgios Chrysovergis, philologist, who was responsible for the preparation of Ms Fytrou for the competition was awarded.
The European students and the accompanying teachers were also awarded a five-day stay in Athens (1-5 September) as guests of the Greek Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs. The Greek and European winners of the Competition visited the Acropolis, the new Acropolis Museum, the Theatre of Dionysus, the Roman Market, the Archaeological Museum of Athens, the Archaeological Museum of Nafplion, the Theatre of Epidavros, the archaeological site of Mycenae and the temple of Poseidon in Cape Sounion. Ms Fytrou was accompanied at the guided tours by Ms Aikaterini Christodoulou, EFL Teacher.
