From Sunday, April 6 to Wednesday, April 9, Ralleio A class students traveled to Thessaly for their educational school trip.
On Sunday, we visited Lake Plastira, where we enjoyed the springtime nature and the enchanting view from the Dam and the beach at Lambero. We then walked around the town of Karditsa and explored the Pafsilipo Park. In the afternoon, we arrived at the picturesque town of Mouzaki, where we stayed overnight.
On Monday, we first visited Pyli in Trikala, located along the Portaikos River, and the renowned 13th-century Byzantine church of Porta Panagia. There, we were guided by the church’s custodian, who shared its history with us. We admired the rare beauty and craftsmanship of its frescoes and icons, as well as its unique architecture. Our visit to Elati and Pertouli held a surprise, as a fairytale-like snowy landscape unfolded before us along the entire route. Elati itself was snow-covered and truly enchanting. We concluded the day in the city of Trikala, birthplace of Vassilis Tsitsanis and Kostas Virvos, where we enjoyed a walking tour along the Lithaios River, admired the Fortress of Justinian, the Clock Tower, historical buildings, and other architecturally beautiful structures.
The next day was dedicated to the awe-inspiring rock formations of Meteora. There, we toured the Monastery of Saint Stephen and were guided through the main church (katholikon) dedicated to Saint Charalambos. At midday, we returned to Trikala for a stroll and some leisure time.
On our way back on Wednesday, we made a stop at Gorgopotamos. In this area of natural beauty stands the historic railway bridge, which was famously blown up in 1942 by Allied and Resistance forces. Our final stop before returning to Piraeus was in Lamia, where we walked around and enjoyed the city with its squares and its Castle.
The students were accompanied by teachers Lefteris Ferentinos, Maria Georgoutsou, Katerina Paidonomou and Charalampos Tsapralis. Head of the trip was the Director, Nikos Zarkadoulas.
