The Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture has made available to teachers the Greek version of the Toolkit for Teachers "Teaching and Learning withLiving Heritage", which includes the translation of the international UNESCO-European Union Toolkit "Teaching and Learning with Living Heritage, A Resource Kit for Teachers" and the nine educational scenarios developed by ASPnet schools during the Greek pilot project (January-April 2024) for the implementation of the proposed six-step methodology for the integration of Living Heritage in everyday teaching practice. We are honored to announce that the Greek Toolkit includes the educational scenario for the Living Heritage element Rebetiko, which represented Greece in the UNESCO-European Union pilot project "Teaching and Learning with Living Heritage" (2019-2021). The scenario was designed and coordinated by Ralleio teacher and European and international programs coordinator Katerina Christodoulou and was implemented by teachers Dimitris Aggelidakis, Efthymia Kakoyanni, Dimitris Christopoulos and herself during school year 2019-2020.
The Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage, taking into account on the one hand the very positive comments that the Rebetiko project had received from UNESCO's Living Heritage Sector experts, and on the other hand, the fact that there was already a good example of a Greek school that could serve as a guide for teachers who would express interest in the design and implementation of similar programs, considered it appropriate to pilot the six-step methodology in schools-members of the Greek ASPnet network for the school year 2023-2024. On behalf of the Ministry of Education, the Directorate of European and International Affairs, through the national coordinator of the Network, undertook the coordination of and communication with teachers and schools. The scientific guidance was provided by the Ministry of Culture through the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage with the assistance of Katerina Christodoulou, the teacher who designed and coordinated the Rebetiko project and since then has participated in teacher training courses both at national and international level - in cooperation with the Living Heritage Sector of UNESCO - for the integration of living heritage in education. Throughout the pilot implementation, the teachers responsible for the design and implementation of the educational scenarios received scientific guidance and support on issues related to both pedagogical methodology and the anthropological approach.
The translation and the scientific editing of the Greek Guide was undertaken by Ms Elena Bazini, Social Anthropologist of the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Ms Katerina Christodoulou, Ralleio teacher and international UNESCO expert on the integration of living heritage in school education.
