From 22 to 25 February 2023, Ralleio B class students went on a four-day excursion to the prefectures of Arcadia, Messinia and Argolida.
The first destination was Vytina, a picturesque village on Mount Mainalo. There we walked along the Road of Love and visited the old Primary School, the Public Library, the Folklore Museum and other traditional stone buildings. Later we departed for the port town of Kalamata, featuring, apart from a large harbor, a nice urban layout, historic buildings and several parks.
The next day, we visited Ancient Messini, where we were guided around the archaeological site and admired the Theatre, the Agora, the Parliament, the Prytaneion, the Asclepion, the Stadium, the Palastra and other monuments.
On the third day, we departed for Methoni and toured its impressive castle, built by the Venetians. We went on to visit the Castle of Pylos and the church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour inside its walls as well as the Archaeological Museum. We ended up at the picturesque port of Pylos, associated with the famous naval battle of Navarino in 1827.
The last destination was Nafplio, we were informed about Palamidi, Bourtzi, the church of Agios Spyridon (where Kapodistrias was assassinated) and the historical buildings of Syntagma Square by our school's philologists Anastasia Keskesiadou and Katerina Pedonomou, who accompanied the students together with teachers Nikos Panagiotopoulos, George Panopoulos and Christina Volonaki.
