In the framework of International Disability day (3rd December) and of the synergy between Ralleio Lykeio and the Athens Special Junior and Senior High School in the European program ERASMUS+ ΚΑ2, “Climate Change Ready” / CCR (2017-19), thirteen Ralleio CCR students, accompanied by the Coordinator Ms H. Kaneletopoulou and the member of the pedagogical team Mr N. Panagiotopoulos, visited the Special School on 11-12-2018, invited by the Director.
All students were informed about Paralympic basketball, volleyball and goalball and participated in sports activities organised by Special Physical Education teachers and by the federal goalball coach.
Paralympic champion Makis Kalaras, invited by the Special School, talked to the students about how he transformed his disability into something positive, about how people in wheelchairs can live a “normal” everyday life emphasising on patience, determination and persistence.
The aims of the activity were to raise awareness about equal access of people with special needs to education and to highlight and disseminate good practices in the field of inclusive education. The objective was to raise the awareness of the participating students regarding the rights of children with special educational needs, the respect for those different and the potential of promoting equal learning opportunities.
