PANHELLENIC ASSOCIATION OF BIOSCIENTISTS

Ralleion Geniko Lykeio Thileon Pirea, after the initiative and under the coordination of Mr Georgios Katopodis and Mr Panagiotis Markopoulos, Biology Teachers in Ralleion, organized the 11th Annual Biology Conference ?Society meets Modern Biology? on 4th and 5th March 2017 in collaboration with the Panhellenic Association of Bioscientists. The event took place at the new conference hall of Ralleio.

The subjects of the conference included a variety of modern Biology issues, such as:

  • the study of human genome and the applications from its decryption
  • gene therapy: prospects of molecular medicine
  • from Next Generation Sequencing to Next Generation Society: SNPs and DNA microarrays in the service of human health and prosperity
  • genetic diagnosis of rare genetic diseases
  • tracing the genetic origin of Greek population by analyzing ancient DNA
  • modern nutritional trends: do we know exactly what we eat?

The speakers were distinguished University Professors and Researchers whose work in the field of Biology has been highly acclaimed.

On Saturday many students had the opportunity to participate in the workshop ?Mystery at Ralleio?, a game of riddles and skills organized by Biologists, members of the Panhellenic Association of Bioscientists.

The conference was attended by many Secondary Education teachers and students from various schools in the prefecture of Pireas. ?Biology meets modern society? is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education.
