We are proud to announce that Ralleio set of school rules and regulations proved to be the most democratic according to unpublished research by Mr Spyros Pagalos comparing the set of school rules and regulations of 15 public and 15 private senior high schools in Greece. Although the existence of such a set is legally mandatory only for private schools in Greece, we believe that the unimpeded and efficient function of any structure within a democratic framework requires common rules and regulations accepted by all those involved in the structure.

Of course the mere existence of a set of rules and regulations does not solve the problem of school discipline. However, it can help towards achieving such a result. The efficiency of schools in the reducing students? behaviour problems can be attained by properly trained teachers, effective leadership, high teaching standards , organised and systematic parents? involvement and, finally, by embracing a culture of change regarding the school in general as well as the school climate.

From October 2014 to February 2015, we focused on developing a set of school rules and regulations through the following democratic participatory procedure. Each class held a two-hour discussion on setting the rules. Then there were three plenary sessions, one for each class, regarding the approval of the set of rules. Following this stage, there was a general students? assembly plenary session to formulate the final unified draft that was then presented to the Teachers? Assembly by the Students? Council. After this, the School Council convened to vote for the set of rules and regulations taking into consideration the proposals put forward by the Teachers? Assembly and the Parents? Association. Finally, the set of rules and regulations was published in the school?s webpage.

The coordinating Committee consisted of Dr D. Kalaitzidis, School Director, Mr P. Zoumblios, Vice Director, Mr N, Panagiotopoulos, Sociology Teacher, Ms K. Douka, Chairperson of the Student Council, Ms E. Vardikou, Vice Chairperson of the Student Council, Ms A. Lagani, A Class student and Mr J. Panagiotopoulos, Chairperson of the Parents? Association.
