6th ANNUAL BIOLOGY CONFERENCE IN PIREAS ?SOCIETY MEETS MODERN BIOLOGY?

Ralleion Geniko Peiramatiko Lykeio Thileon Pirea, after the initiative and under the coordination of Mr Georgios Katopodis and Mr Panagiotis Markopoulos, Biologists, Biology Teachers in Ralleion, in cooperation with the Panhellenic Association of Bioscientists organised the 6th Annual Biology Conference ?Society meets Modern Biology? in Pireas on 2nd and 3rd March 2012. The conference was organised in collaboration with the Directorate for Secondary Education of Pireas and the Laboratory Centre of Natural Sciences of Pireas.

The subjects of the conference included a variety of modern Biology issues, such as:

  • sexually transmitted diseases and HIV,
  • prenatal screening for metabolic diseases,
  • the contribution of Bioscience to the prevention of cystic fibrosis,
  • alternative approaches to the teaching of Bioscience Subjects at Secondary Education
  • the quality of food and public health, Genetic and environmental factors of longevity or cell ageing and, finally,
  • Bioifnormatics.

The speakers were distinguished University Professors and Researchers whose work in the field of Biology has been highly acclaimed.

The conference was attended by the local authorities and by many Secondary Education teachers and students from various schools in the prefecture of Pireas.
