A group of five Ralleion students attended advanced lessons in Particle Physics within the framework of Particle Physics Masterclasses 2012. Ms M. Zoumbliou, Ms R. Lila, Ms A. Stathoulia, Ms V. Kontopoulou and Ms G. Kouvoutsaki were accompanied by Mr Panayotis Charatzopoulos (Physics Teacher) to the Department of Applied Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Athens where the lessons were held on 21st of February 2012.
The lessons were attended by 400 B and C class students from all over Greece, while every year they are attended by 6000 students from 120 cities in 23 European countries. The Masterclasses included lectures on elementary particles, quarks and leptons, their interactions as well as on the ATLAS experiment conducted at CERN. The students also participated in a research project processing data from the CERN Large Hadron Collider. At the end of the day, a video conference was held and the participating students in the Athens Masterclasses discussed about the results and their experience with all their fellow students in Europe as well as with CERN researchers.
