In the framework of our annual school event “Society meets modern Biology”, which brings together students, teachers and members of the public to attend lectures on Biology and the environment by University Professors and Researchers, we organized the special thematic unit “Protecting the sea, protecting life”, in line with the European project Erasmus+KA2 2020-2022, AQUAMARIS/ Acquiring Marine Ecology Insight for Sustainability on the 19th and 20th of March 2021.

The online lectures of the first day focused on the central dogma of molecular Biology. The second day of the school event was dedicated to the pollution and much needed protection of the marine environment, at the beginning of which Ms K. Christodoulou, AQUAMARIS Coordinator at Ralleio Lykeio, presented the content, methodology, activities and expected outcomes of the program. The lectures were held as follows:

• “Organic pollution in marine ecosystems” D. Chatzinikolaou, Associate Professor of Microbial Biotechnology, Biology Department, University of Athens

The 2-day event was organized and coordinated by Ralleio Lykeio Biology teachers G. Katopodis and P. Markopoulos, in cooperation with the Panhellenic Association of Bioscientists and was partly funded by the European project Erasmus+KA2 2020-2022, AQUAMARIS.
