In the framework of the European program ERASMUS +, ΚΑ1 ?Building a learning community in Ralleio?, the Director Dr Dimitris Kalaitzidis , visited high school at Escola Secundaria de Mem Martins in Portugal on job shadowing of his counterpart from 21/04 to 30/04/ 2017.

The school is located in the town of Mem Martins, at a 35-kilimetre distance from Lisbon. It is a big school of more than 1500 students. It is a new school with excellent facilities, a lot of staff, an open and a sheltered gym, a restaurant, chemistry, biology and physics laboratories, facilities for children with special needs, a spacious library, a stationery shop, a canteen etc. The students lunch at the school restaurant every day from 12 to 2 at a very low cost of 1,5 euro. They have to pay for photocopies and special exam paper. C class students have a 25-hour week while all the other classes have lessons for 33 hours per week. The administration of the school is supported by deputy directors and assistant directors. The director has many responsibilities and is supported by many secretaries. The director is selected by a permanent board comprising of representatives of the teachers? assembly, the students, the parents and the Municipality. The changes made by previous governments concerning the aggregation of many schools under the same roof (agroupamentos), in order to economize on directors? and assistant directors? salaries was not welcome by the teachers.
